Autumn Newsletter 6.11.2020

Headteacher: Mrs Emilie Haston BEd (Hons)

Autumn Newsletter 6 November 2020 - Issue 4

 Message from Mrs Haston

Welcome back! It has been a productive week at Goldfinch with many classes enjoying exciting Wow days and reading new texts and immersing themselves into their new topics!. It is even more important that we work together to keep your children, families and staff safe during the second lockdown and we politely ask that you continue to wear a facial covering unless there is a medical reason why you cannot wear one. Please ensure you use the correct gate for drop off and pick ups so that we can keep children and adults separate.

Follow us on Twitter @GoldfinchPrmry – Come and find out what we have been up top this term for yourselves and check out our website www.goldfinchprimary.org.uk

 Parent’s Evenings

Please do not forget to sign up for the parent’s evening meetings that will be taking place next week by telephone. If you are struggling to sign up online, please call the office.

Professional Day Friday 13 November – cancelled

Please be advised that due to Covid, we have postponed the Trust Professional Day that was scheduled for Friday 13 November. We therefore expect all children to attend school as normal next Friday.

Parent Questionnaire

We will shortly be sending out a google form for you to complete for the autumn parent’s questionnaire. Every family who completes the questionnaire will automatically be entered into a raffle for a £20 Sainsburys voucher. Your feedback matters to us!

Anti Bullying Week

The whole school will take part in Anti Bullying Week where the theme is United Against Bullying. Your children will take part in a series of activities over the week. Please support the cause by ensuring your children come into school wearing odd socks on Monday 16 November to highlight that we are all unique on the first day of Anti-Bullying Week,

Please can we politely remind families the importance of bringing children to school on time everyday and ensure they collect after school on time. We are keen that children do not miss learning at the beginning of the day. If you know you are going to be late, please ensure you call the office.

Translating letters

We will soon be changing the way we upload letters onto the school website. Letters will be uploaded as web pages so that they can be translated into your chosen language to support good communication between school and families.

Please can we once again remind you to ensure your children come to school wearing their school shoes and NOT trainers. Children can wear trainers on their two PE days. If children wish to change into their trainers when they go out in the playground, they can change into their trainers before playtime.

Scholastic Book Fair

We are delighted to offer children the opportunity to buy some great books with the Scholastic Book Fair. If you wish to buy a book, you can pay via the telephone or you can bring in the cash and we will send the books home with your child. For every book you buy, you help us to also buy books for classrooms. So please dig deep and enjoy some great new books!

Ventilation in Classrooms

To protect children and the staff, we are keen to keep good ventilation in the school. This means that windows in classrooms will remain open to ensure fresh air can circulate in the rooms. Please ensure that your child comes to school dressed warmly. You may wish for your child to come wear extra layers under their uniform.

Managing sickness during the pandemic at Goldfinch

Children are prone to coughs and colds and we are used to having children becoming unwell. Unfortunately, due to Covid, we have been asked to be extra vigilant and the guidance from the government is to send home any child showing possible symptoms of Covid (a temperature of 37.8 or above, or  a persistent dry cough  and/or loss of taste and smell) We ask families to get a test and not bring their child back until they have had a negative test result. All household members should also remain in isolation until the results are back. If the test results are positive, the child must self-isolate for 10 days and other household members must self-isolate for 14 days. We recognise over the last couple of weeks, it has been very difficult to get a test and so this is why you are being asked for your child to self-isolate for 10 days. Please be patient with us as none of us are medical practitioners and it is always best to seek advice from your GP.

Update on Home Learning Offer while your child is self-isolating

If your child or one of your children develops a high temperature or a persistent cough and you have to self-isolate, home learning will be made available to you. This will be a pack of learning that your child/ren can complete over the 10 days if they are well enough to do so. There may also be some year groups who upload learning on to Google Classroom which many of you will be familiar with as this was what we used for moist year groups during lockdown. We ask that you return the completed work when your child returns to school so that it can be marked. If you do not receive home learning in the post after a couple of days, please call the school office where we will check that the pack has been sent to you. You will also receive regular call from your child’s class teacher and TA to find out how your child is getting on with the home learning.

Please also look out for useful links like Mathletics and Bitesize that your children can access while at home. These links will be on the class newsletters and updated accordingly.

If your child is entitled to a free school meal (this is not the same as universal free school meals), please let us know and we can arrange a weekly food bag while your child is absent from school.

The Aviary

We have vacancies in both our Breakfast and After School Club. If you need childcare before or after school, please let the office know and Ulain Mireku the Aviary manager will get in contact with you to organise a place for your child.
